Mindelo, on the island of São Vicente, was proclaimed the Lusophone Capital of Culture in 2003. This has contributed to making Mindelo a very cosmopolitan city, as it has welcomed sailors from various parts of the globe. This port receives tourists from different corners of the planet through cruise ships that dock to replenish supplies and introduce the delights of the land to crew members and travelers.
