Fogo

“Love is a fire that burns unseen,
a wound that aches, yet isn’t felt;
it’s a contentment in discontent,
a pain that bewilders without hurting.”
Luís de Camões

The island, along with its people, possesses special characteristics. The love for the land, the island, as well as for their ancestors, is untouchable. The strong personality, pride, dedication to work, and sacrifice are predominant traits of the people on this marvelous island.

The main attraction of the island is the volcano, part of the Seven Wonders of Cape Verde. It’s the highest point in the archipelago at 2829 meters above sea level. The picturesque houses of the island blend with the black sand beaches and the eruptions of the volcano, which recently, in 2014, erupted.

The Island of Fogo was the second island to be inhabited. São Filipe, its main city, is the third oldest city in the archipelago and currently shares the position of the 5th largest city in the country with Mosteiros.
