Itinerary
Departure from Porto Novo to Breathtaking Viewpoints
To reach Cruzinha and start our trail, we will travel by vehicle from the village of Ponta do Sol,
located on the northeast coast of the island. Known in colonial times as Vila de Maria Pia, in
honor of Queen Maria Pia of savoy. We will explore the history of the island’s only airstrip,
currently inactive, while our local population engages in fishing activities. Upon reaching the
Cruzinha locality, we will traverse pedestrian paths in a zigzag fashion, featuring captivating
views of the landscape, alternating between the ocean and imposing mountains, along with
breathtakingdeepvalleys.
On our route, we will head towards various localities, including the beautiful village of
Fontainhas, highlighting the picturesque village of Corvo, a lush area with water springs
throughout the year. Corvo offers opportunities for mountain climbing, providing a unique
experience for us. We will also pass through the village of Formiguinhas, known for a beach
called Praia d’Aranhas with black sand, a unique attraction. From July to October, it will be
possibletoobservethenestingof seaturtles.
